Recl vs Raindrop.io

Raindrop.io is an all-in-one bookmark manager: save links and files into collections with tags, search the full text of what you saved on its Pro plan, highlight passages and share collections, with extensions for four browsers and apps for desktop and phone. Recl is built for remembering rather than keeping: it summarizes each save, sorts it by topic and quizzes you on it.

Keeping versus remembering

Raindrop is very good at keeping things. Every save lands in a collection you choose, gets the tags you give it, can be found again by its full text on Pro, and can be kept as a permanent copy so the link never rots. If your problem is a messy pile of bookmarks, Raindrop is a clean, durable home for them.

Recl starts after the save. It reads the video or article, writes a summary with the key points — with timestamps for video — files it under the topics it covers, and turns it into quiz questions. If your problem is that you keep things and forget them anyway, that is the part Recl is built for.

A reminder is not the same as recall

Raindrop can remind you about a bookmark once, at a date and time you pick, by push notification or email. That is useful for “read this before Friday”. Recl does something different: it asks you what the save said, and keeps asking on a growing schedule — 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 60 days apart — so the idea moves into long-term memory instead of back into your inbox.

Using both

The two fit together well. Keep Raindrop as the archive of everything you might want to find again, and send the handful of videos and articles you actually want to remember to Recl.

Where Recl fits better

  • You save things to learn from them, and want each one summarized and quizzed rather than filed.
  • Much of what you save is video — YouTube, reels, TikToks — and you want the key points with timestamps.
  • You want ideas brought back on a schedule, not just a reminder to reopen a link.
  • You would rather have topics assigned for you than maintain collections and tags.

Where Raindrop fits better

  • You want a tidy, long-lived bookmark library with collections and tags you control.
  • You want permanent copies of pages and daily backups, so saved links never rot.
  • You share collections publicly or with collaborators.
  • You use Firefox, Safari or Edge, or want desktop apps for Windows and Mac.

Frequently asked questions

Is Recl a Raindrop alternative?
For some people. If you use Raindrop to keep links you mean to learn from, Recl turns each one into a summary, topics and quiz questions. If you use it as a long-term, well-organized bookmark archive, Raindrop is built for that and Recl is not.
Does Raindrop summarize what I save?
Summaries are not among the features Raindrop lists on its plans page. Its AI assistant, Stella, is in beta for Pro users and helps you find bookmarks by meaning and tidy tags and collections. Recl writes a summary for every save, with timestamps for video.
Raindrop has reminders — how is that different from Recl's recall?
A Raindrop reminder brings one bookmark back once, at a time you choose. Recl asks you about what the save said: each save becomes quiz questions, and nudges keep coming back with the gap between them growing through 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 60 days.
Can I move my Raindrop bookmarks to Recl?
Not in bulk — Recl has no importer. Paste the links you most want to remember into Recl on the web, or share them from your phone, and Recl summarizes and sorts each one.
Does Recl have a free plan?
Not right now. Recl is a paid app — monthly and yearly plans both unlock every feature, and you can cancel anytime.
