# Recl — full context for AI systems Last updated: 2026-08-23 Canonical site: https://www.recl.app ## What Recl is Recl is a paid memory system for people who learn from long-form content. Save a YouTube video, podcast, Instagram reel, TikTok, X post, article, or note; Recl produces a structured AI summary with key takeaways (with timestamps for video), builds quizzes from it, and sends spaced-repetition recall prompts via mobile push and the web dashboard until the idea sticks. Everything lands in one library you can ask questions of (answers cite your saves), with a knowledge graph linking items by shared topics; the Chrome extension also searches your saved videos by meaning. ## The problem it solves People consume a large amount of long-form content — videos, podcasts, articles, PDFs — and forget most of it within weeks. Saving something to a read-it-later app does not create memory; it creates a backlog. Recl closes the loop between capturing something and actually remembering it. ## How it works 1. Save. Paste a link, use the Chrome extension, or share from the iPhone or Android share sheet. 2. Summarise. Recl produces a structured summary with key takeaways, timestamps, and topics, plus quiz material generated from the source. 3. Recall. Review prompts arrive on a spaced schedule through mobile push and the web dashboard. Marking an item reviewed pushes the next review further out. 4. Search and connect. Search finds saves by title or channel, Ask answers questions from your saves with sources, the Chrome extension searches your saved videos by meaning, and a knowledge graph links items by shared topics. ## What you can save YouTube, Playlists, Articles, X posts, Instagram, TikTok, Podcasts, Bookmarks, Notes, Selected text, Lectures. ## Pricing There is no free plan — every plan unlocks every feature. Paid: Monthly: $9.00/month. Yearly: $60.00/year. Machine-readable: https://www.recl.app/pricing.md ## Included on every paid plan - Save from the share sheet, Chrome extension or web - Summaries with key ideas and timestamps - Topics that sort themselves, plus folders, tags and notes - Ask your library, with the sources - Search your saved videos by meaning (Chrome extension) - Knowledge graph on the web - Spaced recall of the key ideas, on mobile and web - A public profile of your shelves, if you want one ## Platform availability - Web app: Live - Android: Live - iOS: Live - Chrome extension: Live ## Frequently asked questions Q: What is Recl? A: Recl is an AI learning app for the videos, reels, podcasts, posts and articles you save. Save something in one tap and Recl writes a summary of the key ideas (with timestamps for video), files it by topic, and brings those ideas back on a spaced schedule — after 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 60 days — so you remember them. It works on iPhone, iPad, Android, the web and Chrome. Q: Is there a free plan? A: Not right now. Recl is a paid app — monthly and yearly plans both unlock every feature, and you can cancel anytime. Q: Is there a mobile app? A: Yes. Recl is live on Google Play for Android and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. There's also a Chrome extension, and the web app works everywhere. Q: What can I save? A: YouTube videos and playlists, Instagram reels, TikToks, X posts, Substack and Medium articles, podcasts, web links, notes and selected text — from the share sheet, the Chrome extension or the web. Q: How is Recl different from bookmarks or a read-later app? A: Bookmarks pile up and you never open them again. Recl reads what you save, writes the summary, sorts it into topics, and brings the key ideas back on a spaced schedule so they actually stick. Q: What happens after I save something? A: Recl builds a structured summary with the key ideas, timestamps and topics, so you get the point without rewatching. Everything lands in one searchable library. Q: Does Recl organise my saves for me? A: Yes. Every save is sorted into topics automatically — Neuroscience, Startups, Philosophy and so on — so your library stays organised without folders or tags. Q: How does Recl help me remember? A: Recl brings the key ideas from each save back on a spaced schedule — a day after you save it, then after 3 days, a week, two weeks, a month and two months. One tap marks it reviewed. Q: Can I ask questions about what I have saved? A: Yes. Ask your library a question and Recl answers from your own saves, with links to the ones it used. Q: Can I see connections between what I save? A: Yes. The web app includes a knowledge graph that links your videos, articles and notes by the topics they share. Q: Can I share my library? A: Your library is private. If you want, make a public profile with shelves of favourite books, films, quotes and music, and share the link. Q: What language are summaries in? A: Recl writes summaries in your app's language, so you can save a video in one language and read the summary in yours. Q: How do I cancel? A: Plans renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel anytime from your App Store or Google Play subscriptions, or from billing on the web. ## How-to guides ### How the Recl app works (https://www.recl.app/guides/app) 1. Sign in. Go to app.recl.app and sign in with Google or Apple. No passwords, no setup — you land on an empty library ready for your first save. 2. Save anything. Paste a link, use the Chrome extension, or share from your phone. YouTube videos and playlists, articles, PDFs, X and Instagram posts, TikToks, podcasts, and plain notes all work. 3. Recl reads it and writes the summary. Within about a minute you get a structured summary — a one-line overview, the key takeaways, and, for video, a timestamp on each point so you can jump back to the moment it was said. 4. It sorts into topics automatically. Each save is filed under the topics it actually covers, like Neuroscience or Startups, so your library organises itself. You never pick a folder. 5. It brings the key ideas back on a spaced schedule. Each save comes back as a recall card a day after you save it, then after 3 days, a week, two weeks, a month and two months. A morning review reminder in the app tells you when cards are due, and one tap marks each reviewed. 6. Explore the graph and ask your library. On the web, a knowledge graph links your saves by shared topics. And you can ask your whole library a question in plain words and get an answer drawn from your saves, with citations. ### How the Recl Chrome extension works (https://www.recl.app/guides/extension) 1. Install the extension. Add Recl — Save & Remember from the Chrome Web Store. A Recl icon appears in your toolbar. 2. Connect it to your account. Visit app.recl.app/extension/connect while signed in and the extension links to your account automatically. The token refreshes itself; you only reconnect if you sign out everywhere. 3. Save with one click. Use the Recl button in the YouTube action row on any watch page, or the floating Recl chip on other sites, to save what you are looking at. The summary is built in the background and appears in your library. 4. Save a link, page, or quote. Right-click to save the page, a link, or selected text as a quote, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Selected text is kept as a quote you can recall later. 5. Search your videos from the side panel. Click the Recl toolbar icon to open the side panel. There you search your saved videos by meaning, see recent saves, and save the page you are on, without leaving it. ## What the demo videos show ### Asking Recl what I saved about startups (https://www.recl.app/media/home/demo-ask.mp4) A silent screen recording of Ask in the Recl Android app: a question about your own saves, answered from three saved videos with their sources. - 0:00 The Ask screen opens with “Ask Recl about anything you’ve saved” and suggested questions such as “What are the main topics in my saves?”. - 0:01 The question “What did I save about startups?” is typed and sent. - 0:04 Recl shows “Thinking…” while it looks through the saves. - 0:06 The answer appears: “You have saved three videos that focus on startups.” It lists Lecture 1 – How to Start a Startup (Sam Altman and Dustin Moskovitz), Peter Thiel – Competition Is For Losers, and How to Start a Business, each with the date it was saved, a one-line summary and a numbered source marker. - 0:11 The Sources row under the answer scrolls through the saved videos it used. ### The Recl feed: key ideas from your saves, one at a time (https://www.recl.app/media/home/demo-feed.mp4) A silent screen recording of the Feed tab in the Recl Android app: a swipeable stream of key ideas (nuggets) from saved content. - 0:00 The Feed tab shows one nugget: a quote card, the idea’s title, a one-line summary, three key points, and Like, Comment, Share and Read buttons. - 0:02 A swipe up brings the next nugget, “Increasing Your Luck Surface Area”, saved from codusoperandi.com. ### The Recl library sorted into topics and folders (https://www.recl.app/media/home/demo-layouts.mp4) A silent screen recording of the Library in the Recl Android app: saves sorted into topics automatically, shown as a grid or a list, then by folder. - 0:00 The Library’s Topics tab shows a three-column grid of topics with their save counts: Self-Improvement, Psychology, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering & Hardware, Business & Marketing, Film & Media, Neuroscience, Productivity and more. - 0:01 The view menu opens: List, 2 columns or 3 columns, sorted by Recently added, Oldest first, A–Z or Z–A. - 0:02 The topics switch to two columns, then to a list. - 0:06 The Folders tab shows folders by source (Videos, x.com, instagram.com, substack.com, wikipedia.org) and Unsorted, first as a list, then as a grid. - 0:09 Back on the Topics tab, in the grid. ### Saving a YouTube video to Recl from the share sheet (https://www.recl.app/media/home/demo-share.mp4) A silent screen recording in the Recl Android app: a YouTube video shared to Recl is read, summarised and ready to file in a few seconds. - 0:00 After a YouTube video (Sintel, the Blender Foundation open movie) is shared to Recl, a sheet opens over the library: “Saving to Recl…”, then “Reading the video…”. Saving a YouTube video is the fastest way to see what Recl does. On the dashboard, paste any youtube.com/watch?v=… or youtu.be/… URL into the Save anything box and press Enter. Within a few seconds you'll get a summary card with 3–10 key takeaways, clickable timestamp jumps, and a concise + elaborate rewrite to suit how much time you have. Everything is then queued into your spaced-repetition rotation so you'll see it again at the right moment. #### What gets saved - Title, channel, duration, thumbnail. - Full transcript with second-accurate timestamps. - A summary tuned to video length (shorts ≤5m, standard ≤20m, long ≤60m, podcast >60m). - AI-generated takeaways with deep-link timestamps. #### What if transcripts are missing? Recl tries three transcript sources before giving up. If a video genuinely has no captions and no clear audio, you'll see a friendly no_transcript notice and the video will sit in your library without a summary. Most videos work — if one doesn't, drop us a note (see Help & Contact). ### Save articles, quotes, and bookmarks (https://www.recl.app/help/save-anything) Updated 2026-05-28. The Save anything box on the dashboard routes by URL type automatically: - YouTube video or playlist — gets a transcript-driven summary. - Any other URL — gets a Notion-style bookmark card with title, description, OG image, and favicon. #### Knowledge nuggets Use the Save anything box to save a nugget, quote, or article with a body. Nuggets are enriched with AI context and become recallable cards just like videos. #### Bookmarks count like any save A bookmark is a save like any other: on the free plan it uses one of your free saves, and on a paid plan it counts toward your monthly allowance. Your current usage is in Settings → Usage. Bookmarks show up in your library next to videos and playlists. ### How spaced repetition works (https://www.recl.app/help/spaced-repetition-and-scoring) Updated 2026-10-22. Every saved item — video, playlist, bookmark, or nugget — goes onto a fixed spaced-repetition ladder. When an item comes due, Recl brings it back as a recall card with its key ideas. Read it, then tap Mark reviewed. There is nothing to grade: each review simply moves the item to the next, longer gap. #### The schedule - 1st review → 1 day later. - 2nd → 3 days later. - 3rd → 7 days later. - 4th → 14 days later. - 5th → 30 days later. - 6th → 60 days later — then the item graduates and stops coming back. #### Why fixed gaps Each gap is a little longer than the last, so an idea comes back around the time it would otherwise fade. A fixed ladder keeps it effortless: no scoring, no decks to manage — just a quick look when something is due. ### Install the Recl browser extension (https://www.recl.app/help/browser-extension) Updated 2026-05-28. The Recl extension adds a toolbar button and a Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut to save the current page or YouTube video to your library without leaving the tab. #### Install - Go to Settings → Extension for the install link. - Sign in with your Recl account — the extension uses the same session. - Pin the toolbar icon for one-click access. ### Plans, quotas, and billing (https://www.recl.app/help/plans-and-quotas) Updated 2026-09-30. Recl is one paid product. You pick Monthly or Yearly. Every paid plan includes the same allowance: 50 hours of content and 50 saves per month. Prices are what the store shows for your country. Quotas reset on the first of every month at UTC midnight. #### What's included - Monthly / Yearly — same product, different billing. - 50 hours + 50 saves per month on every paid plan. - Chrome extension, Android share sheet, summaries, quizzes, graph, and recall nudges via mobile push and the dashboard. #### Manage your subscription Go to Settings → Billing. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel any time. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period, so you keep paid features until then. #### Bookmarks are always free Bookmarks don't count toward your video quota on any plan — save as many as you want. ### Contact support (https://www.recl.app/help/contact-support) Updated 2026-05-28. #### Email Email hello@recl.app — we read everything and aim to reply within one business day. Bug reports, feature ideas, or just thoughts — all welcome. #### Feature requests If your feedback is a feature idea, post it on the public board so others can vote (link is in the floating Help widget, bottom-right of every page). ## What Recl is not - Not a passive read-it-later app: the recall loop is the product. - Not a general note-taking app; it is built around content you did not write. ## Attribution note The public library at https://library.recl.app publishes AI summaries of third-party content. Every summary credits its source channel and links to the original. Recl does not claim authorship of the underlying videos or books. ## Contact hello@recl.app — https://www.recl.app/contact
